Today is my brother's 30th birthday. Thanks to all who wrote in with suggestions on what to get him. I ended up getting him a shirt he can wear to school, because my mom got him a pair of pants so I got the shirt to match. They are building a house, not buying, so they don't actually have the house yet. In fact, they haven't started building yet. They have the lot, but they're still saving up for the building part. So I think I'm going to hold off on buying them house and home related stuff until the building has commenced. So, my webcam arrived over the weekend! I installed it myself and I've been goofing around with it all day. Rather than clog up this page, I made a separate page where you can see my goofing around-ness. Have fun. I don't think I'm going to use it for streaming video, but I might. Or I might, but only give out the URL to my notify list or something. Frequently I write my journal entries first thing in the morning, before I've showered, and still in my PJs, and I don't think anyone needs to see that. Plus most people I know who have webcams get e-mails from illiterates saying "Get naked". Um, no. I'm not Jenni. Thank God. I was reading this article in the paper yesterday about Mackenzie-Childs. They are designers located here in Upstate NY, and you've probably seen their stuff, or knock-offs of their stuff. Anyway, I thought it would be kind of a cool place to work. Then I found out that you can't swear (or take the Lord's name in vain) in their offices. Doing so is grounds for dismissal. Also, you have to wear khaki, blue and white every day. Huh?!? Whatever. I think I'll pass. In other news, I have a piece up on Fametracker called "Celebrity or Personality", so go check it out. It's no Real World summary, but it's all right. It's a funny concept - I just don't know if I nailed the writing of it. But Wing Chun seemed to like it enough to post it, so I guess I should just let it go. I'm just happy that someone thinks enough of my writing to post it on a website (besides me, obviously). Jim took the day off today. It's nice having him around. Two of his sisters are in town with their families, so we'll probably be visiting them at some point. Right now he is playing Colony Wars: Vengeance on his Playstation with Justin. So I didn't write anything about my weekend and the wedding shower and such. I'll save that for tomorrow. I did get to listen to This American Life on my way back to Syracuse and damn, that's a good show. Catch it if you can. Oops, I would have just gotten canned if I worked at Mackenzie-Childs. |
Warning: clicking on these links will launch a new browser window. I love when people deconstruct advertising, and Adlink does a good job. This is probably heresy: while I think Jakob Neilson makes some good points, I don't think he is the ONE voice of web usability. So sue me. I like Greil Marcus and all, but sometimes I don't have a clue what he's talking about. On the Hellmouth site, kids are contributing their stories of abuse in school. John Popper of Blues Traveler has apparently recovered from his angioplasty surgery and is touring. Violence erupts at a Dave Matthews concert? This story about Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci reminds me that I saw a trailer for Sleepy Hollow and it looks excellent. |
