Don't forget - I updated the cast list if you get confused. To continue with my weekend's adventures After resting in my mom's cool, semi-air conditioned house for an hour or so, I decided to drive out and visit my grandmother. My grandma (who I call Nan) is the BEST! She is truly the nicest, sweetest lady in the world. She is very vibrant, and acts about 20 years younger than she is. I think she's in her late 70's. When I arrived, she was entertaining two of her classmates (from the class of 1939!), so I sat and listened to them talk about what the town was like when they were kids. I wish I had a video camera or tape recorder because they were telling incredible stories! After a while, I went back to my parents' house to grab a bite to eat. Then Jim and I went back over to the school for the big finale, the alumni choral concert. People had signed up to sing in this chorus and they rehearsed for about 2 hours. And they were REALLY good! They did this Phantom of the Opera medley that we sang when I was in high school, and I remember it being really hard, but they pulled it off. They finished off with our school's alma mater, and we all left. After going back to my parents' house for dinner, we drove up to Molly's house to hang out a bit. Molly and her husband had pretty bad sunburns (did I mention it was like a THOUSAND degrees out?), so they wanted to just hang out and rest, which I could understand. Brenda and I decided to head out on the town to see if we could find some fun. This is hilarious if you know my town - there are probably three or four places open after 8:00 at night. Jim decided he had enough of hanging out with people he didn't know and listening to conversations he didn't understand, so he went home. Jim was a trooper all weekend, but he thinks that might exempt him from going to my 10 year high school reunion next year. No way! Brenda and I drove around town and stopped in at a few places, but didn't see anyone we knew. They were having a sock hop down at the Mumford Town Hall, and it was packed. But it was mostly classes from the 50's and 60's - more my parents' crowd than mine. Finally, we saw my brother's car at one bar, so we stopped in there. Turned out that Brenda's sister was there too, so we stayed there for a while. We got to see an exciting police raid on the house next door. There was a domestic violence call, so the police kept coming back. Finally, the third time, they led the guy out in handcuffs. Just like Cops! My brother was being really funny and we were having a great time reminiscing about teachers etc. Around midnight, Brenda and I decided to stop by a party we knew about, so we took off. When we got to the party, it was all people younger than us, except for two guys from our class. We talked to the two guys from our class for an hour or so, then Brenda dropped me at home. Sunday morning, Brenda, Molly and I (plus another girl) decided to go and buy party supplies for Gretchen's wedding shower in August. This will probably be the last time all of us will be in town at the same time until then, so it was good to get it over with. After buying our supplies, we went to the Cracker Barrel for breakfast. When I told Mary about this, she said she and Terry call it Crapper Barrel because it was so bad. But I thought it was really good! Of course, she went to the one in Syracuse, and I went to the one in Rochester. Could they be that different? I don't know. Anyway, I thought it was delicious. Plus I got some coffee in me, which improved my mood A LOT. Later, Jim and I went out to my aunt's house to go swimming. That was a godsend because it was still really hot out. My mom came with us and Nan came over too. It was like a mini-family reunion, poolside. Then Jim and I headed back to Syracuse. Overall, it was a great (if exhausting) weekend. And now you are all bored to tears, I am sure. Tomorrow things will get back to normal. |

This is an interesting and comprehensive introduction to information architecture, which I'm really interested in. I had to do a presentation last night on AltaVista. So yesterday around 2 p.m., I went there to check something and OH MY GOD! They redesigned their entire site over the weekend. So I had to redo a big section of my report, but hopefully I'll get extra points for timeliness. Ebay is auctioning off props from Lost In Space (the TV show) and Mystery Science Theater 3000 (or MST3K if you're cool like me.) So Pearl Jam's "Last Kiss" became a top-selling single without the normal radio push. Even if you don't like Pearl Jam, this is an interesting article about how songs get on the radio.
