I asked a question to my notify list yesterday: "I left my wallet in El Segundo" - what song is that and who sings it? Well, Shelly was the first one through with the correct answer: "I Left My Wallet in El Segundo" by A Tribe Called Quest. Second place goes to Stasi. See all the fun you are missing out on? Join my notify list! Last night, Jim had to do a mini-website for work. He knows HTML, but he hasn't used it much, so he brought it home to finish up and have me help him with it. I have to say, I was surprised by how much I knew! I've kind of been operating in a vacuum here - I just do my little pages and it doesn't really matter if my code is clever or not - as long as the pages work, that's cool. But with Jim's pages, I was able to point out places where the HTML editor he was using created clunky code, and explain how he could fix it. I also was able to help on some design issues (and he asked for all this help - I wasn't offering my unsolicited opinion!). It just made me feel really knowledgable and think, "Hey, maybe I COULD do this for a living!" In other related news, the guys from supergush asked me to take over their website. That's pretty exciting for a couple of reasons:
The only thing I'm worried about is when I'm going to have time to work on it. I wanted to do a redesign of this site, but that's going to have to wait until the end of the summer. Oh well, fall is a good time for fresh starts, I think. Plus, once I get the supergush site designed, the upkeep will be really minimal - just updating the schedule on maybe a weekly basis, and then major overhauls on maybe a quarterly basis. And I won't be responsible for MOST of the content. It's not like this site where it's all me, me, me. (Don't let me fool you - I wouldn't have it any other way.) So, I found another journaler who lives in Syracuse! He lives in the University area, and his wife went to LeMoyne too. I just thought that was really cool. I asked him if we should form a diary 'burb (a subset of a larger diary ring) for Syracuse journalers. Of course, it would just be him and me. There must be others out there. Are there? Well, I still have to write this week's Real World summary, so I'm ending this one here. Oh, and in case I forget to mention it, I'm going to be on vacation all next week. I might do some stuff over the weekend, but no new entries until July 10th. Robbers, don't even think about stealing my stuff - I'm hiring a vicious attack dog! |
Warning: clicking on these links will launch a new browser window. A cool web color resource that I don't think I've mentioned before. I usually use Lynda Weinman's site but lately I've been using this one to check out how various colors look together. Does anyone know of a site or a book that talks about color theory and how to determine which colors look good together? USA Today has been having interesting articles about cyber stuff lately. Here's one on what makes online communities work. Thanks to Cam for this one: Why aren't content creators (artists, writers) valued as highly as engineers? "Wild, Wild West" is getting bad reviews. I never saw the appeal of this movie. Giant robot spiders? What's that about? I had no idea Kevin Smith was married, and he and his wife just had a baby. Where have I been? The new Netomat browser would be cool for random surfing, but it would be frustrating if you were trying to find something specific, I think. |
